Suggestions of rushing through spending initiatives filled with pork have drawn particular ire, as many GOP members prefer a more aggressive approach that aligns with their principles rather than fostering bipartisan mediocrity.
With the looming January 3 deadline for House Republicans to decide Johnson’s fate, the stakes are higher than ever. As GOP members deliberate over Johnson’s leadership, it seems apparent that he is not currently basking in Trump’s favor. To keep his position, he would need to pivot quickly, shake off the burdens of past mistakes, and present a united front against a Democrat-controlled agenda.
