House Launches Biden Impeachment Hunt Amid Dem Outrage

The House voted on Wednesday to give the green light for the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, and the Republicans are hoping this move will help them get the documents and witnesses they’ve been asking for. The authorization passed with a vote of 221-212, with all the Democrats in favor and the Republicans against it.

The inquiry was sparked by then-Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who decided the House would dig into whether President Biden did anything seriously wrong. The big questions they want to answer are whether Biden used his power as vice president to help himself and his family make money, whether he pressured the Department of Justice to go easy on his son Hunter Biden, and how involved he was in his family’s business in other countries.

The FBI even said it got a tip that Joe and Hunter Biden got bribes from a Ukrainian company that Hunter worked for, and that Joe Biden got the Ukrainian government to fire a prosecutor to help them out. But the folks leading the inquiry, Reps. James Comer, Jim Jordan, and Jason Smith, haven’t found solid proof yet. They’re hoping that by starting this impeachment inquiry, they can get some info to either prove or disprove those claims.

Comer said, “President Biden must be held accountable for his lies and obstruction” as he argued for the resolution. These Republicans think that having the whole House on board with the inquiry will give them extra power to force people to hand over info and testify.

Right after the vote, Hunter Biden showed up at the Capitol to talk to the media, even though he was supposed to sit down for a private talk with Congress, but refused. He said, “For six years I’ve been the target of the unrelenting Trump attack machine shouting ‘Where’s Hunter?’ Here’s my answer: I’m right here.”

The White House and the Democrats in Congress aren’t happy about the Republicans starting an impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden. They say it’s all just a big witch hunt based on made-up stuff. Biden said, “Instead of doing anything to help make Americans’ lives better, they are focused on attacking me with lies,” in a statement after the vote. “Instead of doing their job on the urgent work that needs to be done, they are choosing to waste time on this baseless political stunt that even Republicans in Congress admit is not supported by facts.”
