In a truly epic battle of wills, the saga between Hunter Biden and Republican committee chairmen has reached new heights of intensity. The first son, Hunter Biden, has been dancing around the idea of testifying in front of the House Oversight Committee. But what’s this? The Republican overlords are not amused. House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) quickly reminded Hunter that his appearance is not negotiable, as he is expected to appear for a closed-door testimony. That’s right, closed-door! None of that open-door nonsense. The Republicans want to keep things hush-hush, and Hunter better comply, or else.
Comer, along with House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH), issued a threatening letter to Hunter’s attorney, Abbe Lowell. They’re not messing around. If Hunter doesn’t show up for his closed-door deposition on December 13, 2023, they are ready to initiate a good old-fashioned contempt of Congress proceedings. The Republicans aren’t mincing words. They want Hunter to know that he can’t just waltz in and out of a lawful subpoena. The nerve!

But wait, there’s more! Hunter’s attorney, Abbe Lowell, fired back with a letter of his own. In a stunning move, Lowell stated that Hunter will only appear for testimony in a public hearing. Oh, the audacity! According to Lowell, the closed-door sessions are nothing but a manipulation of facts, a distortion of the truth, and a total disservice to the American public. He’s demanding transparency and truth in these proceedings. How dare he challenge the almighty Republicans and their closed-door shenanigans!
Meanwhile, House Oversight Committee Ranking Member Jamie Raskin has joined the circus, scoffing at the threat to hold Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress. The Republicans are not pleased and are clapping back on social media, reposting articles and engaging in a spicy back-and-forth with Raskin. Popcorn, anyone?
As if that wasn’t enough drama for one day, President Joe Biden himself got testy when questioned about his interactions with his son’s business associates. “I’m not gonna comment. It’s just a bunch of lies. They’re lies,” the president insisted. It seems like the political battlefield is heating up, and the Republicans are not backing down.
