Officials told reporters the president was moved off a newer, less-hardened luxury jet and put on an older, better-defended presidential aircraft after the threat emerged.
What the mainstream press keeps tiptoeing around is how close we came to a catastrophic failure if our security protocols had been lax. The newer Qatari-gifted plane lacked some of the hardened missile-detection and countermeasure systems found on the legacy VC-25A, which is why the swap to the older jet wasn’t a trivial detail but a life-or-death decision.
Credit is due where it’s earned: the Secret Service and military planners moved quickly to protect the commander-in-chief, quietly executing a risky deception that spared the president — and the country — a headline we all could have regretted. Yet that same operation became fodder for a leak that served only to stoke partisan flames and scare the American people, underscoring how irresponsible disclosures can hand our enemies a public-relations victory.
