It’s a classic case of jargon masking a clear lack of action, because if Harris has shown one thing during her time in office, it’s that a high-profile job title doesn’t mean fulfilling any responsibilities.

While Harris and her fans in the media tout her so-called successes in drumming up international investment in countries like Guatemala and Honduras, anyone who has ever spent time at the DMV knows that economic progress can take generations to facilitate. A nifty PR move—promoting the idea that complex economic solutions will miraculously stem a crisis near our border—is essentially a political sleight of hand, allowing the administration to sidestep immediate accountability.
Harris not only inherited a tangled mess at the border but also skillfully sidesteps any real responsibility. With a format that entices liberal ideologues, she seems to be playing the long game. Her rhetoric about addressing the “root causes” sets her up to offer abstract results rather than concrete solutions. As her team scrambled to market an image of being proactive, the record-high numbers of illegal crossings continued to pile up like laundry on a college dorm floor—out of sight, out of mind game on full display.
Ultimately, Kamala Harris has settled into a role reminiscent of a rabbit in headlights, both aware of the impending chaos and seemingly reluctant to take the wheel. If she was looking for a way to deftly avoid heavy lifting, then she gets an A for effort.
