Vice President Kamala Harris has once again proven that her grasp on reality is as loose as a pair of flip-flops at a summer beach party. While she confidently insists she’s ready to “turn the page,” the only page she seems stuck on is a fairy tale about her competence. This week, she met her match in North Carolina Mayor Derek Roberts, who called her out for spinning a yarn about the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) response to Hurricane Helene.
According to Mayor Roberts, Harris made promises regarding relief measures that are more inflated than a Hollywood blockbuster’s budget. She claimed that storm victims would receive a $750 fish—only to leave many, including Roberts’ daughter, high and dry, with a paltry $300. This amount barely covers the essentials, much less the catastrophic damage done to homes, where entire first floors were transformed into swimming pools, sans the fun. Letting a politician like Harris mislead residents is akin to handing a toddler a chainsaw—it’s bound to end badly.

Residents in North Carolina are understandably furious. They expected the Biden-Harris Administration to swoop in like superheroes, but instead, they got a team of bumbling sidekicks. Critics have pointed fingers at the duo for abandoning their responsibility when it matters most. It’s hard to imagine how these leadership misfires will play in the 2024 election as more citizens lose faith in their government.
Adding fuel to the fire, conservative commentator Glenn Beck suggested that FEMA would rather focus on shutting down novice helicopter rescue operations than assist those grappling with loss in the mountains. Even UFC star Tim Kennedy couldn’t contain his skepticism, saying Harris seems to have forgotten about the hurricane survivors while FEMA flounders about with priorities more misplaced than socks in a washing machine. Rather than provide aid, it looks like Harris and her team are more interested in creating a “rumor response page” to pacify misinformation rather than addressing the actual crisis taking place in North Carolina.
Meanwhile, the contrast with former President Donald Trump couldn’t be starker. Instead of resigning to social media campaigns and ziplock bags of empty promises, Trump visited the devastated areas to hand out actual supplies. One can’t help but wonder if Biden and Harris are more focused on securing votes in battleground states rather than helping their constituents in desperate need. The Republican delegation, including Sens. Thom Tillis and Ted Budd, has even suggested calling in military leadership for disaster management, a bold move when the current administration appears content to hide under the desk and avoid confronting the reality outside.
The entire debacle shows that despite Democrats’ claims of compassion, they may not have gotten the memo about actually helping their constituents when the chips are down. It demonstrates the old adage: when it rains, it pours, and when it pours, Democrats find an umbrella of excuses instead of real solutions.
