New Talarico Tapes Show James Talarico’s Fake Moderate Act

The political theater in Texas just got a new act. O’Keefe Media Group dropped the “Talarico Tapes” — undercover video clips purporting to show people close to U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico admitting he’s far more progressive behind closed doors than he pretends on the trail. If you like political chutzpah, this has it: a man running as a moderate in Texas whose own camp reportedly admits he’s playing a role. Cue the drumroll and the popcorn.

What the “Talarico Tapes” actually show

The clips released by James O’Keefe’s group include lines like “James, he’s not going middle,” “don’t put too much stock into border security comments,” and that Talarico was “offended by ICE and the Gestapo.” Williamson County Democratic Chair Kim Collins Gilby and a man identified as the father of Talarico’s girlfriend are the people O’Keefe spotlighted. The clear message in the videos is that Talarico’s public pitch for Texas voters — a centrist, border-aware Democrat — may be more theater than truth.

Why the timing is no accident in the Texas Senate race

Dropping these tapes this close to Election Day matters. Talarico has spent recent months trying to sell himself to Texans as a pragmatic voice on border security, faith, and jobs. If his team really thinks they can run as a moderate while privately planning to push hard-left policies on immigration, abortion, and gender ideology, voters deserve to know. In a tight contest against Attorney General Ken Paxton, authenticity — or the lack of it — is a campaign’s most vulnerable spot.

Yes, O’Keefe has a controversial record — but inconsistencies still matter

Let’s be fair. James O’Keefe and his prior outfit have been criticized for sting methods and selective editing. Conservatives should want honest, unedited footage too. That said, the tape’s claims don’t come out of nowhere: Talarico’s past record and statements are on file, and they show a pattern more progressive than the storyline he’s selling now. So demand the full footage, demand answers, and then judge how well the “moderate” mask holds up against the record.

Bottom line: Texans deserve straight talk, not theater

Republicans should applaud the catch — and voters of all stripes should push for clarity. If a candidate changes his pitch to win votes in Texas, voters have the right to know whether that pitch is sincere or stagecraft. Talarico’s campaign needs to produce clear, direct answers and the uncut tapes if they exist. Otherwise, Texans can decide whether they want a senator who governs from conviction or one who governs from a script. Either way, the Talarico Tapes have forced a conversation Texas voters didn’t ask for but certainly deserve.
