PBS Censors Trump: Free Speech Dies, Biased Coverage Rages On

The Public Broadcasting System (PBS) is proving itself a purveyor of one-sided coverage of American politics. Following the historic arraignment of former President Donald Trump on federal charges, PBS gave an unnecessary warning to the audience that served to discredit the speaker and reduce the credibility of his arguments to the American public.

PBS posted an insulting graphic over Trump’s speech that read, “Experts warn that inflammatory rhetoric from elected officials or people in power can prompt individual actors to commit acts of violence”. Such editorialization is unnecessary and only serves to further disqualify Trump’s already prejudiced trial.

Donald Trump has contested the 2020 election based on constitutional procedures, the questionable legality of mass mail-in ballots, and the alleged interference of private actors – a legitimate argument that the American people have the right to hear. PBS’s censorship of Trump represents a clear disregard for the basic principles of free speech, an ideal they once held dear.

House Democrats selectively edited videos and texts in the trial against Trump in order to make unjust accusations against him, accusing him falsely of inciting a riot, an accusation that was cleared in the Senate. Furthermore, there is far more compelling evidence that President Joe Biden is at least partially to blame for the rising political vitriol in the country amid the killing of a Trump supporter following an especially incendiary speech. Biden has suggested that Trump supporters represent an “extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic.”

Kentucky Republican Rand Paul, a victim of political violence himself, suggests that “President Biden needs to realize that his vilification of his opponents is inflaming some of his supporters to violence. As a victim of political violence, both sides need to recognize the consequences of heated rhetoric.”

Then there is the case of Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) who was shot by a Bernie Sanders supporter in 2017. The shooter, James Hodgkinson, was apprehended at the scene but later succumbed to his injuries. This and other incidents prove that political violence is not confined to the right side of the political spectrum.

PBS’s cherry-picked smear of Donald Trump at a time when the American people have the right to hear their former president’s defense is just another case of why PBS has become nothing more than state-run media. PBS’s biased coverage of American politics continues to showcase just how untrustworthy they are – they’re no longer educators, but rather politically motivated propaganda machines.
