Poll Shows 79% of Democrats Favor Harris If Biden Bows Out

In a classic case of the left eating its own, seventy-nine percent of Democrats have reportedly given their nod of approval to Vice President Kamala Harris as their presidential nominee if President Joe Biden throws the towel. According to a new Economist/YouGov poll, the left is looking for an escape hatch as they realize their hand-picked geriatric commander-in-chief may not be up for another battle against the Trump train.

In a snapshot of the Democrats’ internal chaos, twenty-eight percent think that Harris could take on Trump and come out victorious, while 32% hold the rather quaint belief that Biden and Harris would have equal chances of winning. Less than a quarter place their bets on Biden pulling off a win against the former president, which is a strong indicator that the blue camp is running out of blue pills to swallow.

Amidst this political circus, Democrats are in a tizzy, with mounting calls for Biden to step aside. Even the ever-present Nancy Pelosi reportedly plays her usual behind-the-scenes puppet master routine. She’s been chatting up fellow Democrats, hoping to convince the reluctant president to bow out gracefully. In an apparent moment of clarity, Biden has started to show some openness to these calls.

According to the poll, 44% of Democrats think Biden should probably step aside as their nominee, compared to 41% who still cling to the notion he should stay put. The main concerns? A whopping 68% are worried about his age, health, or cognitive function, while a mere 23% fret over his ability to take down Trump. Reality is finally sinking in.

Despite all this drama, only 16% of Democrats and 19% of voters overall believe it’s likely that Biden will step aside. However, Rep. Adam Schiff, always yearning for some spotlight, went public with his call for Biden to pass the torch. This comes after a turbulent week where Trump was allegedly shot at a Pennsylvania rally. Who says modern politics doesn’t have the suspense of a thriller novel?

Biden has insisted that he’s in it to win it. Still, in a recent interview, he left the door slightly ajar, admitting he might consider stepping down if a medical condition arises. This poll, conducted from July 13-16 among 1,582 adult U.S. citizens, reveals how rocky the Democrats’ road to 2024 is shaping up. Grab the popcorn, America – this circus isn’t leaving town anytime soon.
