Sen. Murphy Casts Doubt on Biden’s Readiness for Second Term

Sen. Chris Murphy, a die-hard Democrat from Connecticut, seems to have joined the chorus that isn’t quite sure if President Biden can handle another term in office. Murphy appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union,” suggesting that Sleepy Joe needs to up his game if he wants to convince anyone he’s still got the juice for another four years. Murphy hinted that maybe the president should come out of the basement and do something radical like a town hall or a press conference to show he’s got a pulse and some functioning brain cells left.

Murphy gave Biden a pat on the back, saying he trusts the president can still pull off his best performance as one of America’s favorite political salesmen. But let’s be honest, that’s about as convincing as a used car salesman swearing that clunker is going to get you cross-country. This week, Murphy warns, will be critical for Biden to prove he’s not just a puppet with someone else pulling the strings.

Pressed by host Dana Bash on whether Biden should still be the Democratic nominee, Murphy couldn’t help but launch into a praise-fest about Biden’s so-called accomplishments. According to Murphy, Biden’s first four years were a legislative marvel. Apparently, we’re supposed to forget the inflation, border crisis, and international embarrassments that have defined Biden’s presidency so far.

Murphy did give a heads-up that the clock is ticking. This week, apparently, Biden needs to engage with real live voters to squash any doubts about his capability. Kind of begs the question why he hasn’t done that already instead of hiding behind teleprompters and pre-scripted media events.

In an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, Biden assured America he’s in it for the long haul, despite five House Democrats publicly suggesting he should step down. Meanwhile, there’s a rumored band of Democratic senators, spearheaded by Sen. Mark Warner from Virginia, ready to call time on Biden’s presidency.

It seems even his own party is waking up to the reality that maybe, just maybe, America needs a leader who can string together a coherent sentence without losing his train of thought. If Democrats are jittery, it’s for a good reason. They know their chances in 2024 hinge on whether their top guy can stay awake through an entire press conference, let alone lead the country.
