In a victory for gun rights and the Constitution, a federal judge in New Mexico has put a stop to Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s absurd ban on carrying firearms in Albuquerque and the surrounding county. Judge David Urias slapped a temporary restraining order on the ban, recognizing that it violates Americans’ constitutional rights. Bravo, Judge Urias!
Lujan Grisham’s attempt to trample on the Second Amendment sparked outrage on both sides of the political spectrum and led to widespread protests. It’s no wonder why – her order was not only unconstitutional but also completely ineffective in addressing actual crime.
Even before the restraining order, law enforcement leaders in the area made it clear that they would not enforce Lujan Grisham’s anti-gun agenda. Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman flat-out refused to comply, emphasizing that his office would focus on criminals who use guns to commit crimes, not law-abiding citizens exercising their rights. Bernalillo County Sheriff John Allen felt the same way, refusing to put his deputies in the position of enforcing an unconstitutional order. Good for them for upholding the Constitution!
It’s no surprise that New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez also rejected Lujan Grisham’s order. Torrez called out the governor for her overreach and questioned the order’s impact on public safety. He was right to do so. These politicians need to remember that law-abiding Americans have the right to protect themselves and their loved ones, and they can’t just trample on those rights whenever it suits their agenda. Thankfully, Judge Urias recognized the importance of our constitutional rights and put a stop to Lujan Grisham’s reckless ban. Let’s hope this serves as a reminder to other politicians that they can’t mess with the Second Amendment without facing consequences.
