Trump Gains Ground with Puerto Rican Americans as Jokes Backfire on Democrats

A recent survey from Signal Polling and Analytics, which followed former President Donald Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden, revealed that Trump is pulling ahead among Puerto Rican Americans—a demographic he lost handily in 2020. This revelation has sent left-wing pundits and political leaders into a frenzy, especially following a comedic jab about Puerto Rico made by Tony Hinchcliffe during the event. Apparently, jokes about the picturesque island couldn’t have come at a worse time for desperate Democrats.

Conducted from October 26 to 28, the poll showed Trump leading all Latino voters by a solid 10 percentage points. Should these figures hold, the 2024 Republican nominee could see a transformative shift compared to 2020, where the vast majority of Latino voters—65 percent—chose President Biden over Trump. It seems that jokes, once thought to be career killers, are now helping Trump’s campaign gain traction among groups that leaned away from him just a few years ago.

The survey particularly highlighted the Latino vote in Florida, where Cuban Americans showed overwhelming support for Trump, providing him with a staggering 28-point lead. However, the plot thickens with the Puerto Rican American demographic, where Trump recently gained a shocking two-point advantage. This marks a significant turnaround from 2020, when Puerto Ricans handed Biden a whopping 66-34 victory in the state, raising eyebrows on both sides of the political aisle.

Watchful eyes are on the Harris-Walz campaign, which is trying to make the most out of Hinchcliffe’s comedic miss—frantically churning out ads aimed at Puerto Rican voters. They’ve also enlisted the help of some Hollywood voices, urging voters to steer clear of Trump. But judging by the recent poll numbers, it seems that the actors and activists may as well be shouting into a void because, no matter how hard they try, they can’t seem to sway public sentiment back toward the Democrats.

The Democrats are having a tough time incorporating Hinchcliffe’s joke into an effective attack strategy—mainly due to President Biden’s own questionable comments, where he called Trump supporters human “garbage” during a CNN interview. The White House quickly doubled down, claiming the president misspoke, despite the evidence being captured on video. They even resorted to doctoring transcripts, revealing just how panicked they are about losing ground among crucial voter demographics. The blunders don’t seem to stop, making it clear that the Democrats may need more than just bad jokes to dodge electoral disaster in the forthcoming elections.
