Americans who remember those days know how much it mattered to be free of that vulnerability, and this administration has taken clear steps to lock in that security.
Make no mistake: the turnaround didn’t happen by accident. Policy choices from the prior Trump administration opened the doors to drilling, pipelines, and investment that revived domestic production — a transformation that experts and officials trace to reforms begun in 2017 and 2018 when the United States first surged past rivals in output. Those policies gave hardworking Americans not only jobs but real leverage against hostile regimes that weaponize energy.
Phelan also argued the shift to a superpower in oil production will blunt price spikes caused by foreign crises, and that long-term consumers will be shielded when global tensions subside.
