Adam Schiff Defeats Steve Garvey, Secures Senate Seat Amid Trump Critique

Rep. Adam Schiff has once again proven that he can outsmart a former baseball player when he trounced Steve Garvey in a recent special election, snagging the last few months of the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s term and securing a new six-year gig in the Senate. The race was so predictable that even the Associated Press called it just moments after the polls closed, as if they had already filled in their own brackets from the start.

Schiff, who has spent the better part of two decades cozying up to power and sharpening his knives for Donald Trump, ran a campaign that put every ounce of energy into reminding voters just how much he relishes his role as the face of anti-Trump hysteria. Rather than focus on the needs of Californians, he doubled down on his love for impeachment and keeping the pressure on whoever the Republicans pick for the presidency. It’s like he’s running for ‘Chief Trump Agitator’ instead of an actual Senate seat.

Trump, being Trump, didn’t skip a beat in labeling Schiff as the “enemy from within” and a “sleazebag,” which, when you think about it, is quite the distinction considering the colorful cast of characters in Washington. Schiff’s underwhelming competition, Garvey, was not spared either. Trump noted that the ex-Dodgers star didn’t exactly hit a home run with his bid, primarily because he didn’t leverage the MAGA faithful that would have otherwise propelled him into swing territory.

Garvey’s campaign can only be described as a political fish-out-of-water tale. He floundered his way through policy questions while skipping major Republican events, like the California Republican Party convention and the grand spectacle of the Republican National Convention. His attempts to charm Latino voters were met with a resounding “not today,” leaving him stuck on the sidelines while Schiff cruised on wave after wave of Democrat popularity in a state that overwhelmingly tilts blue.

In their one and only televised debate, Garvey blasted Schiff for being nothing more than a “career politician” fixated on avenging Trump instead of addressing the problems facing Californians. In spite of Garvey’s claims, Schiff cleverly countered by dismissing him as a “MAGA mini-me in a baseball uniform.” It’s a low blow for sure, but in the political arena, the game is all about who gets the last laugh. Schiff’s strategy to catapult Garvey into the general election over another Democrat, Rep. Katie Porter, for the sake of an easier opponent was criticized, but it looks like he knew exactly what he was doing. Just another day in the life of a “career politician” thriving in a deeply entrenched leftist stronghold.
