The Biden administration has once again shown their true colors by dealing a huge blow to the hardworking people of Alaska’s economy. This time, they’ve canceled several oil and gas leases that were issued two years ago in the National Petroleum Reserve. Can’t they just leave well enough alone?
Interior Secretary Deb Haaland is claiming that this decision is all about climate change. She says that with the Arctic warming at an alarming rate, we must protect this fragile ecosystem. What about protecting the livelihoods of the people who depend on these leases for their jobs and financial stability? It seems like the Biden administration would rather prioritize their radical climate agenda over the well-being of hardworking Americans.
The White House is touting this move as part of their “ambitious climate and conservation agenda.” But what about the agenda of putting America and American workers first? It seems like that’s been thrown out the window. President Biden promised to be a leader for all Americans, but it seems like his priorities lie elsewhere.
The Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA) is not taking this decision lying down. They have pledged to fight the cancellation in court, and rightfully so. This action by the Department of the Interior is arbitrary and goes against federal law. It’s time for the Biden administration to stop playing politics and start following the law.

Alaska Senator Dan Sullivan is speaking out against this assault on Alaska’s economy. He warns of the “palpable anger and frustration” among Alaskans and rightly criticizes the Biden administration for their “war on Alaska.” This isn’t just devastating for Alaska, but for the energy security of our entire nation.
It’s clear that the Biden administration’s actions are driven by their extreme environmental ideology, not by what’s best for the American people. It’s time for them to stop prioritizing their radical agenda and start prioritizing the hardworking men and women who rely on these leases for their livelihoods. America deserves leaders who will put its citizens first, not their own partisan interests.
