Shivanthi Sathanandan, the Second Vice Chair of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, recently took to Facebook to share her terrifying experience of being carjacked in front of her children. According to Sathanandan, four young men approached her in broad daylight, armed with guns, and violently beat her to the ground while her kids watched. Even when her neighbors tried to help, the assailants held them at gunpoint. Sathanandan described her face in a photo, showing the aftermath of the attack, as the face of a mother who had just been brutally assaulted. She expressed her overwhelming fear for her children’s safety and the urgent need to catch and prosecute the criminals responsible for this horrendous act of violence.
This story carries immense weight considering Sathanandan’s past stance on defunding the police. Just three years ago, she supported the idea of dismantling the Minneapolis Police Department, the very entity that came to her aid following the attack. This is a perfect example of hypocrisy at its finest. It seems that only when faced with the terrifying reality of personal victimization, Sathanandan has come to appreciate the critical role police officers play in ensuring the safety and security of our communities. It’s about time she realized that you can’t have it both ways – calling for police defunding on one hand and then praising their heroic efforts on the other.

Not only does Sathanandan now realize the importance of law enforcement, but she also highlights the need to address the root cause of such crimes – illegal guns and the young individuals wreaking havoc on our streets. She emphasizes the urgency of catching these delinquents and holding them in custody, advocating for their prosecution rather than releasing them back onto the streets. This is a crucial shift in perspective for Sathanandan, but one can’t help but wonder if she would have reached this conclusion sooner had she not personally experienced this horrifying ordeal.
If anything, this incident serves as a wake-up call to all those who championed the dangerous rhetoric of defunding the police. Sathanandan’s story reminds us that when we strip our communities of the protection provided by law enforcement, we open the door to more violence and suffering. The fact that she was able to walk away from this attack alive and share her story is a testament to the bravery of both Sathanandan and the police officers who eventually came to her aid. It’s time for Democrats to reconsider their misguided approach and take a hard look at the real-life consequences of their reckless stance on crime and punishment. We can’t let criminals roam free while law-abiding citizens suffer the consequences.
And here’s an interesting bet: if they ever manage to catch these attackers – and we hope they will – it wouldn’t be surprising if they had a criminal history and were previously let off the hook with minimal consequences. It’s all too common for repeat offenders to slip through the cracks of our criminal justice system, thanks to lenient policies pushed by Democrats. It’s time for accountability and a genuine commitment to keeping our communities safe.
