President Joe Biden delivered a speech at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, where he made light-hearted jokes about his age and shared some jabs at his opponent, former President Donald Trump. Biden, who is 81 years old, humorously referred to himself as a “grown man running against a 6-year-old” and lightheartedly referenced his campaign activities in various states, including Pennsylvania, Georgia, and North Carolina. He also playfully acknowledged his long-standing career by humorously suggesting that Lorne Michaels should ignore critics who may say it’s time for someone else to take the stage.
The president also took the opportunity to poke fun at Trump, highlighting that his vice president, Kamala Harris, supports him, unlike former Vice President Mike Pence’s reluctance to endorse Trump. Biden also teased Trump about his legal issues and joked about him starting to read the Bibles he sells.
In a more serious moment, Biden criticized Trump’s characterization of the press as “the enemy of the people” and expressed gratitude to the free press for their dedication and the risks they face in covering various events, from natural disasters to conflicts.
