President Joe Biden may be on the recovery track according to his doctor, but it raises the question of how much recovery this country can expect from his presidency. Just days after making the decision to sit out the next election cycle, Biden has been sidelined at his beachfront property recovering from COVID-19. It’s almost as if he decided to take a vacation from politics just as much as from his health issues.

His physician, Dr. Kevin C. O’Connor, laid out the bright side, claiming that after an impressive eight doses of Paxlovid—a drug that seems more like a contestant in a reality TV show than a medication—Biden’s symptoms have considerably improved. It’s good to know that while many Americans are struggling with rising costs and inflation, the president can breathe easy at his Rehoboth Beach retreat, although his doctor previously flubbed the stats on COVID variants like an amateur statistician at a state fair hotdog-eating contest.
Just when it seemed like the pandemic was turning into a dull chapter in the history books, along comes a new variant to dance through the respiratory system: SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) KP.2.3. Thanks to O’Connor’s inconsistent reporting, there’s speculation that this variant is just another symptom of the changing landscape of COVID absurdity rather than a threat, even as it shows up in nearly 13% of cases. With his latest decisions, like dropping out of the race without giving the country a chance to celebrate his exit, the nation is left to ponder who will really be doing the governing. It’s hard not to wonder if a nation could get away with issuing a citizens’ vote of “do-over” for the Biden administration as they recover, simply to see what any competent presidential health might have looked like instead.
