On the campaign trail, Biden has taken to framing the 2024 election as an epic battle for the very soul of democracy, as if the fate of the nation rests solely in the hands of voters, along with his own ability to control his party’s mouthpieces. Just ten days after calling for a cooler political climate following Trump’s assassination attempt, he has dialed up the drama—a classic Biden move. No pressure here, folks; it’s only about whether “we keep our republic.”
When pressed by reporters about the potential dangers of Biden’s talk, Jean-Pierre pivoted to the familiar refrain of unity. At the end of it all, Jean-Pierre’s insistence that lowering the temperature requires participation from both sides only highlights the discrepancy in the narrative being pushed. Sure, everyone’s invited to this unity bash, but only if they are willing to play by the left’s rules. Unfortunately, it seems that the idea of shared responsibility is lost on a team that thrives on division when convenient.
