President Biden succumbed to a coughing fit during a speech about climate change on Tuesday, further fueling speculation about his ability to effectively lead the country. In addition to the coughing incident, recent polls have revealed concerns about Biden’s age and fitness for the presidency. A Wall Street Journal poll discovered that a significant portion of Democrats believe Biden, currently 80 years old, may be too old for the job. Furthermore, Rasmussen Reports found that 72% of likely voters think Biden’s age could pose a serious obstacle to his chances of re-election.
The president’s speech wasn’t just about coughing, though. He also shared about his visit to the White House “Demo Day,” where he was exposed to various scientific projects and advancements, including electric heat pumps for clean energy and innovative prosthetic technology. Despite these positive moments, the coughing episode has only added to the concerns over Biden’s health and fitness for the presidency.
In response to these worries, Democratic strategist David Axelrod, a former adviser to President Obama, has raised doubts about Biden’s ability to continue in office. Axelrod suggested that Biden’s “age issue” could be used against him in future campaigns, and even went as far as to call on Biden to “get out or get going” regarding his presidential campaign.
