House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, a Republican from California, is wasting no time in pushing for an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. McCarthy has set a date of September 28th for the opening statements in this highly anticipated hearing. He wants to hold the President accountable for his alleged involvement in his son Hunter Biden’s business activities that have resulted in criminal tax charges.
This move by McCarthy gives the White House very little time to prepare a defense, should they choose to participate in the proceedings at all. It’s clear that the Speaker is determined to shine a spotlight on President Biden’s connections to foreign actors and the millions of dollars that flowed through a complex network of shell companies to benefit Joe Biden’s family members.
The House Oversight Committee, led by Representative James Comer of Kentucky, will be conducting the first hearing. They have obtained bank records tracing the money trail and intend to bring in Hunter Biden, who is still facing charges, to testify. The committee spokesperson stated that the hearing will focus on the President’s involvement in corruption and abuse of public office.

Further hearings will likely be scheduled in front of the House Judiciary Committee, led by Representative Jim Jordan of Ohio. Jordan has been relentless in questioning the FBI and IRS about their alleged preferential treatment of Hunter Biden during tax and gun charge investigations. He believes that the Justice Department purposely ignored leads that could implicate President Biden.
The White House has come under fire for trying to control the narrative by releasing a memo to media outlets, urging them to fact-check claims made by Republicans. It’s clear that they are feeling the pressure as more evidence emerges linking Hunter Biden and the President. The ever-changing statements from the White House spokesperson, Karine Jean-Pierre, have only added fuel to the fire. First, they denied any discussions of business activities, and then they shifted to saying the President never participated in those activities. These contradictions are simply not convincing.
It’s crucial that we have transparency and accountability in our government, and that’s exactly what McCarthy and his colleagues are fighting for. This impeachment inquiry will be a defining moment for President Biden and his administration.
