There have been rumours that President Joe Biden might drop out of the 2024 presidential race because of health issues. It looks like even Democrats are starting to leave his side. According to the Washington Post, many Democrats are worried about Biden's worsening physical and mental health. One party leader even went so far as to say that at his age, death is "imminent." But let's not jump to conclusions just yet. When the head of the Democratic Party in Lorain County, Ohio, says something like that, it's hard not to wonder if the President can really do his job.

Sharon Sweda, the head of the Democratic Party in Ohio, said she was worried about the President's advancing age, especially when you're "at his age, or Trump's age" (ouch). It's clear that people care about age, and who can blame them? At a private fundraiser this week, Biden told the same story twice in a short amount of time. We all know that leaders like to say the same things over and over, but this is a whole new level. It's like Groundhog Day, but not as funny or charming.
That's not all. While talking to the leader of Brazil, our 80-year-old President almost tripped over the flag. Can we really trust someone to run our country who can't even figure out how to fly a flag? During the meeting, he also used notecards and a script that was already written. As a President, do we want someone this ready? A boss shouldn't have to flip through a stack of notes like a student studying for a test. They should be able to think of things on the spot.
A lot of people, not just Democrats, are worried as well. Someone in the Democratic Party told the Washington Post that the "nightmare scenario for Democrats" would be if Biden got the nomination but then had to drop out because of health issues. Can you picture the chaos that would happen? It'd be like a game of musical chairs in politics, with no one left who can really lead the party. Talk about a bad dream.
Last month, the Associated Press did a study, and the results are shocking. Seventy-seven percent of people across the board think Biden is too old to stay in office for another four years. It's important to note that even 69 percent of Democrats are worried about this. This is not just a traditional point of view; a lot of people feel this way. Even Democratic adviser James Carville agrees that people's worries about Biden's age could make them less likely to vote. People are less likely to support their candidate if they don't think he or she has the mental and physical strength to be a good president. And who can blame them?
In reality, Rep. Dean Phillips of Minnesota was dead on when he said there are other candidates "who have a far better chance and don't have the actuarial risk that the president has." The Democrats need to really think about whether Biden's health problems make him the best candidate for their nomination. Two-thirds of Democratic voters want someone other than Biden to be president, while only a quarter of Americans think he has what it takes to be a good leader. No doubt about it, the numbers don't lie.
Even though Biden may still have time to prove his critics wrong, more and more proof points against him. Democrats find it hard to accept the truth, but sometimes it's the worse thing that can happen.
