In a blatant attempt to thwart former President Donald Trump, two House Democrats are scheming to introduce legislation that would prevent so-called “insurrectionists” from running for federal office. Reps. Jamie Raskin and Debbie Wasserman Schultz are on a mission to revise legislation to enforce the 14th Amendment, which has a clause prohibiting those who have “engaged in insurrection” from holding public office.

This move comes hot on the heels of the Supreme Court’s recent ruling allowing individual states to include Trump’s name on the 2024 ballot, despite efforts by Democrats to block it. Raskin and Wasserman Schultz are frothing at the mouth to fulfill their political fantasies of banishing Trump from the political arena once and for all.
Their proposal seeks to create a federal process to determine whether an individual is an “insurrectionist,” providing Attorney General actions and so-called “private rights of action” to further their partisan agenda. This shameless power grab is a desperate attempt to subvert the will of the American people and prevent Trump from seeking office in the future.
In their joint statement, Raskin and Wasserman Schultz shamelessly pushed their biased narrative, claiming, “Our bill affirms the constitutional directive that anyone who swears to protect the Constitution but violates that oath by engaging in insurrection or rebellion can never serve again in federal or state office.”
Their efforts come as a direct response to the Supreme Court’s decision to validate Trump’s appearance on the Colorado presidential ballot, overturning the state court’s previous ruling to keep him off. Democrats are seething with rage, but their desperation knows no bounds.
While the court rightfully maintained that the 14th Amendment would require congressional action to be enforced, the Democrats are already hatching plans to push their partisan bill through the House. They seem to have forgotten that their proposal is as unlikely to succeed as their presidential candidate in 2016.
It’s important to note that the Democrats’ proposal is purely a political stunt with no real chance of success under Republican leadership. Their efforts to undermine the will of the people and keep Trump out of office only serve to highlight their own partisan pettiness and fear of facing him at the ballot box.
