Three officers were injured after a man with a weapon, reportedly a machete, attacked them in Times Square.
According to the police commissioner, the attack happened at around 10:11 p.m., near 8th Avenue and West 52nd Street.
The suspect, who was reportedly 19 years old, approached an officer from behind and attempted to hit him with a bladed instrument. He then allegedly hit two other officers with the weapon.

According to Sewell, the officer who shot the suspect was able to use his own weapon. All three of the officers were then taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries. The NYPD also posted a photo of the suspect's weapon on social media.

Mayor Eric Adams of New York City said he spoke with one of the officers who was injured. He noted that the officer was in good spirits and was able to understand how his actions saved the lives of other people.
Adams also said there were “no credible threats” to New Yorkers at this time.
The mayor also noted that there were no credible threats to the city at this time. The incident is being investigated by the FBI.
During a news conference, Mike Driscoll, the FBI's New York Field Office's assistant director, said that the agency was working with the NYPD to determine the attack's nature.
Driscoll stated that there is no ongoing threat to the city. He noted that the suspect was a lone individual at this time.
