In a recent poll by Reuters-Ipsos, it was revealed that 53% of respondents, including 29% of Democrats, believe that President Joe Biden was given “special treatment” and avoided charges for mishandling classified documents because of his position as U.S. president. The poll also found that 64% of respondents, including half of Democrats, consider it believable that Biden illegally took the classified information in question.
Special counsel Robert Hur released a report on Feb. 8, which detailed Biden’s mishandling of classified documents but cited the difficulty of convicting the president due to his portrayal as an “elderly man with a poor memory.” Consequently, no charges were pursued.

Only 46% of voters are familiar with Hur’s comments about Biden’s mental competency and its potential impact on a trial, according to the poll. Furthermore, 78% of respondents, including 71% of Democrats, believe Biden is too old to work in government. In contrast, only 53% of respondents think former President Donald Trump, Biden’s likely 2024 opponent, is too old to hold office.
Biden’s late-night press conference on the night of the Hur report was deemed “incoherent” by many viewers, with the president even mistakenly referring to Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the president of Egypt, as “the president of Mexico.” During an emotional response, Biden criticized Hur for sharing inappropriate details from the report, including an allegation regarding his memory of his son Beau’s death.
According to the same poll, Biden is trailing behind Trump in support, with 37% favoring Trump compared to 34% favoring Biden. The survey, conducted between Feb. 9 and Feb. 12, included 1,237 participants.
The Washington Examiner reached out to the White House for comment on these poll findings.
This poll clearly shows that many Americans are skeptical of Biden’s actions and his ability to govern. It also highlights concerns about his mental competency and whether he received special treatment due to his position. With Biden’s perceived shortcomings and Trump gaining more support, it seems like the tides may be turning for the upcoming election. Let’s see where these numbers lead us in the future!
