It seems that there are a multitude of problems at Fort Cavazos, formerly known as Fort Hood, in Texas. One of the major issues is the lack of dining options for the soldiers stationed there. According to the Military Times, only two out of the ten major dining facilities are open on a daily basis for junior enlisted personnel. This means that many soldiers have to travel up to an hour just to have a meal. It’s simply unacceptable that the Army can’t even provide food for its own soldiers.
The lack of dining options can be attributed to a shortage of cooks. Apparently, Army cooks have been deployed to other states, leaving Fort Cavazos without enough staff to run the kitchens. It’s ironic that the Army can send billions of dollars and equipment to Ukraine, but can’t even staff its own kitchens in Texas. This kind of negligence is disgraceful.
But the problems at Fort Cavazos don’t stop there. There is also a lack of transparency and accountability when it comes to addressing racial incidents on the base. Back in April, barracks housing the 1st Cavalry Division were defaced with racial slurs and offensive drawings. The Army quickly identified the two responsible soldiers, but no disciplinary action has been taken against them. It’s suspicious that the Army has refused to disclose the race of these soldiers, especially considering its supposed commitment to removing white supremacists from its ranks. One has to wonder why the Army is hiding this information and whether there is a potential cover-up taking place.
Overall, the situation at Fort Cavazos is a disgrace. The Army needs to prioritize taking care of its soldiers, both in terms of providing basic needs like food and addressing serious issues like racism. It’s time for the Army to step up and do better for the men and women who serve our country.
