Once again, Democrats are jumping ship on the Biden presidency, and the latest deserter is none other than Montana’s Senator Jon Tester. Senator Tester, clearly feeling the heat from his own reelection campaign, is the second Democratic senator to tell President Joe Biden to pack up and give someone else a shot at ruining the country.
While Tester’s comments suggest he’s had enough of Biden’s blunders, one has to wonder if it’s about courage or convenience. Tester made a point to say that he’s not afraid to stand up to Biden—unless, of course, Biden and his policies suit Tester’s agenda. It’s easy to speak out when your own job’s on the line and public opinion is swirling down the drain.

Senator Tester’s call for Biden to step aside follows his disastrous debate performance against Trump last month, a moment that apparently was so terrible even his own party members can’t look away. Tester is hardly a lone wolf in this; there’s a growing number of Democrats who smell the sinking ship and are desperate to hop in a lifeboat.
It’s no surprise Tester isn’t pledging his loyalty to Vice President Kamala Harris, either. He wants an “open nominating process”—probably Democrat-speak for “anyone but Kamala.” What he’s really saying is he’s hedging his bets, not willing to tie himself to a VP whose popularity rivals that of a root canal.
Tester’s position might be risky, but it’s more interesting given his own reelection battles. Facing off against Tim Sheehy, an aerospace millionaire with backing from Senator Steve Daines, Tester’s got his hands full. He’s clearly trying to distance himself from the Biden-Harris disaster while simultaneously dodging GOP bullets.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee wasted no time calling out Tester’s game. The NRSC pinned the senator’s true colors right where they belong, pointing out Tester’s loyalty to Biden 95% of the time. Now he’s teetering on endorsing Kamala Harris, who represents a continuation of the same failed policies.
So, while Tester may claim he’s pushing for new faces, it’s glaringly obvious; he’s just scrambling to save his own political skin.
