The 86-year-old driver was found after his brown convertible allegedly struck a parked car in Yountville, then drove on until his own car became disabled. The Napa County Sheriff’s Office has sent the matter to prosecutors and to the DMV for a driver’s-license reassessment.
What happened in Yountville?
According to the sheriff’s office, a witness called 911 after seeing the crash. Deputies later found Pelosi’s convertible with front-right damage partially blocking a road and identified him as the driver. He reportedly told officers he “knew he hit something but did not know what it was,” and kept driving until the car stopped. No one was hurt, and a preliminary alcohol screening showed 0.00.
Referral to prosecutors and the DMV
The sheriff’s office recommended a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge and referred the case to Napa County District Attorney Allison Haley for review. The agency also sent the incident to the California Department of Motor Vehicles for a driver’s-license reassessment. Paul Pelosi was not arrested at the scene, which will leave some asking whether the outcome will be the same as it would be for an ordinary driver.
