Congressman James Comer recently appeared on Fox News Channel’s “The Ingraham Angle” to discuss the massive amount of fraud and waste that has been occurring in the Covid relief program. During the interview, Comer stated that the pandemic spending would go down in history as the biggest theft of American tax dollars ever. He also noted that the Democrats had not held a single hearing in the Oversight Committee during their two year reign, which was supposed to be in charge of waste, fraud and abuse over pandemic fraud.

Comer was responding to Laura Ingraham’s question about how big the fraud will total up to. He estimated that it would exceed 20%, which would be over a trillion dollars. He then went on to explain that he and his congressional allies are now looking into the fraud now that they are in power. He emphasized that no one has previously shown an inclination to investigate the fraud and that the Democrats refused to do so when they were in control of Congress.
Ingraham then played a clip of Democrat Rep. James Clyburn saying that investigations into the fraud were unnecessary and a waste of time. Comer responded by calling Clyburn symbolic of Washington Democrats and that they don’t care about how much money they waste, only that they spend more money. He also noted that Clyburn had been in leadership for four years during the pandemic and had never bothered to investigate the situation or put safeguards in place to prevent it from happening again.
Comer concluded by saying that the Small Business Administration had not utilized the do not pay list when administering the PPP Loan Fund, which would have been an easy way to prevent some of the fraud. He expressed his desire to try to claw back some of the funding, hold people accountable, and put safeguards in place for the future.
The Covid relief program has been plagued with massive amounts of fraud and waste since its inception. It is clear that Comer is determined to get to the bottom of this issue and make sure it does not happen again.
