It’s no surprise that the 2024 Republican primary is shaping up to be a battle of the titans between former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. These two conservative powerhouses have been dominating the headlines and capturing the attention of voters across the country.
But it seems that Trump has once again shown why he is the undisputed king of the Republican Party. According to a straw poll conducted at the annual Turning Point Action Summit, Trump was the overwhelming favorite among attendees, with a whopping 85.7 percent choosing him as their top choice for the 2024 Republican nominee.
Meanwhile, poor Governor DeSantis trailed far behind in third place with a meager 4.3 percent of the vote. Ouch! It’s clear that Trump’s charisma and strong conservative values continue to resonate with the Republican base, leaving his competitors in the dust.
Now, some might argue that this straw poll isn’t a true reflection of the entire Republican electorate, and they would be right. But let’s not forget that Turning Point Action has been a staunch supporter of DeSantis in the past, so the fact that they overwhelmingly chose Trump speaks volumes.
And let’s face it, DeSantis didn’t do himself any favors by skipping out on the summit this year. The attendees were disappointed, some even booing, and it’s clear that his absence hurt his chances in the poll. It’s a classic case of “out of sight, out of mind.”
But Trump isn’t one to miss an opportunity to gloat. He took to his Truth Social account (a platform he launched to counter the liberal bias of Big Tech) to celebrate his “BLOWOUT” victory in the straw poll. He couldn’t resist taking a swipe at DeSantis, dubbing him “Ron DeSanctimonious” and reveling in his distant third-place finish.
Now, we must remember that national polls are a different story. While Trump has a commanding lead with 53.7 percent of the support in the GOP primary, according to RealClearPolitics, DeSantis trails behind at a mere 20.2 percent. But hey, a win is a win, and Trump knows how to play the game.
It’s clear that Trump remains the “single most dominant force” in conservative politics, as Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk aptly put it. And the attacks on him have only made him stronger. It’s no wonder the liberal media and establishment politicians are shaking in their boots at the thought of a Trump comeback.
So, buckle up, folks. The 2024 Republican primary is shaping up to be an epic showdown between Trump and DeSantis. And if this straw poll is any indication, it looks like Trump will once again have the last laugh.
