Former President Donald Trump is showing off his legal prowess once again, this time targeting mainstream media outlets in a lawsuit over their coverage of financial losses at his media company, Truth Social. Trump, who was permanently suspended from Twitter, founded Truth Social as a way to get his message out after being silenced by Big Tech.
The lawsuit filed by Trump Media & Technology Group alleges that 18 news outlets participated in a “coordinated” effort to report a fabricated $73 million loss statement submitted to the Securities and Exchange Commission by Digital World Acquisition Corp. This company is seeking to merge with Truth Social. The suit, filed in Florida, is seeking a jury trial and a whopping $1.5 billion in punitive damages, along with a gag order to delete all articles about the losses.

Among the targets of the lawsuit are well-known liberal media outlets like MSNBC, Newsweek, CNBC, Reuters, and The Daily Beast, to name just a few. It seems that these outlets couldn’t resist jumping on the bandwagon to spread falsehoods about Trump’s media venture. But little did they know that Trump would use his legal acumen to bring them to justice.
According to Trump’s attorneys, these media outlets failed to do their due diligence and neglected to mention that the corrected filing showed Truth Social’s actual losses were $31.6 million, not the outrageous $73 million they reported. They conveniently left out the fact that Truth Social actually turned a profit of $50.5 million in 2022. It’s almost as if these mainstream media outlets have an agenda against Trump and want to paint a false picture of his success.
By choosing to file the lawsuit in Florida, Trump may have set himself up for a victory. The state’s laws require defendants seeking to appeal a lawsuit to put the entire amount in dispute into escrow before they can file. This means that these struggling media outlets would have to come up with $1.5 billion if they wanted to appeal Trump’s victory. Good luck with that!
This lawsuit is just another example of how Trump is using the courtroom as a strategic tool in his campaign to reclaim the White House. With multiple criminal trials and a civil case against him, Trump has been able to generate headlines and position himself as a victim of a biased court system under President Joe Biden. It’s clear that Trump knows how to play the game and is determined to come out on top.
